The readings for this week were an introduction to culture and popular culture. The book we are reading, Cultural Theory and Popular Culture, states that the word culture is actually one of the most difficult words in the English language. It is very hard to describe culture in only one way. It can be desribed as intellectual development, a way of life, or practices. In terms of popular culture, the second and third definitions seem to apply more; culture as a way of life - in terms of what we do with our lives and how we spend our time, and culture in terms of practices – music, movies, theatre, and so on. As we continue reading this book, I'm sure we will begin to understand these definitions more clearly.
