Today’s readings from The Bedford Guide for Writing Tutors dealt with helping writers navigate their way through the writing process. The chapter goes through every step of the writing process from prewriting and brainstorming to editing long papers. The chapter explains how a writing tutor can assist at any or all of these stages. For example, a writing tutor can help someone plan to write a paper and organize their thoughts. More importantly, I think, a tutor can help the writer revise their rough draft through either global editing or sentence-level editing. Helping a writer learn to revise their paper in terms of its organization may be a challenge since most student writers are more comfortable at the sentence-level. That being said, it would also be very rewarding.
